CITY have all but guaranteed another season of Championship football at Ashton Gate after beating Barnsley 3-2 on Saturday.

Games between us and The Tykes always seem to have goals galore and this game in particular provided for a thrilling encounter in which City made an excellent second half comeback.

Head coach Lee Johnson again stuck with the same starting 11 for an unprecedented fourth game in a row however it didn’t look like it was going to pay dividends as City played out a poor first half and went into the interval 1-0 down.

But City were a different animal in the second half and came out all guns blazing.

That man again Tammy Abraham fired in the equaliser on 53 minutes; he will be missed next season.

Moncur put Barnsley back in the lead midway through the second period but Paterson equaliser again for City just a few minutes later. City’s comeback was complete when in the 74th minute Aden Flint rose above everyone in the penalty area to head home Paterson’s corner and send the home fans into raptures.

It was Flint’s fifth goal of the season, which is a great return for a centre back. Indeed, the former Swindon player has now scored 29 goals for City in 168 appearances which is quite something, and along with his sound defensive ability may lead to their being interest in him from other clubs this summer.

City are six points clear of relegation with two games to go and in addition have a goal difference that is nine goals better than Blackburn’s.

It would, therefore, take a freak turn of events for City to end up relegated.

A draw or better at already promoted Brighton on Saturday (5.30pm) at the Amex Stadium would make City mathematically safe and I have a feeling we may well get something from this game, which will be broadcast live on Sky Sports.
