HEATHER Knight is convinced her Western Storm team can go one better in the second edition of the Kia Super League this summer.

Storm enjoyed a successful debut campaign until they were beaten by Southern Vipers in the first Finals Day in Chelmsford last August.

This year, Finals Day is heading for Hove on Friday September 1 – and Knight is determined that the Storm, centred around Gloucestershire, Somerset and the University of Exeter, will be there again.

“The first year was really successful as a tournament,” said the England captain who currently has a foot problem.

“To make it to Finals Day was nice for the Western Storm, and we had a pretty good season. That final game we didn’t quite get over the line but we’ve managed to keep the same core of players – so hopefully we will be here at Hove at the end of the season.”

Before then, Knight has the small matter of leading England in a home World Cup, providing her recovery stays on track – with group games in both Bristol and Taunton, the two home grounds for the Storm.

But she revealed that planning has already started for the Storm’s 2017 campaign – which starts with a repeat of last year’s final as they face the Vipers at the Ageas Bowl on August 10.

That will be the first of six matches “That first game against the Vipers should be a really good way to start the competition,” added Knight. “It’s going to be the first Kia Super League game that’s been televised as well.”
