Cinderford St John v Stone

STONE remain on the Gloucestershire County League Division Two basement after going down to a third defeat of the season.

Stone travelled to Cinderford St John on Saturday and suffered an eight wicket defeat.

They were put into bat and were skittled out for 83 of which Cinderford St John contributed 29 in extras.

The top end of the Stone innings were mostly dismissed for single figures, with only Henry Ball at number four, reaching two figures when he was trapped lbw for 13.

Number seven Charles Ball was the other batsman to get into double figures as he hit 16 but the rest contributed 25 runs between them.

In reply, Cinderford St John’s openers both went for single figures from the bowling of Alex Sharman, who ended with 2-22 from four overs, but when home wicketkeeper Matt Jackson and number four Mark House got going, Stone could not get rid of them.

Jackson hit 19 not out while House got the lion’s share of the Cinderford runs with 43.

Stone’s James Barnes had Cinderford struggling as he clamped down on the run chase with six overs that cost just nine runs with two maidens.

But his effort could not be matched by the other five bowlers used as Cinderford St John reached 85-2 at the beginning of Tim Lezard’s third over.
