Cam 1st XI 65-10 lost to Hatherley & Reddings 2nd XI by 101 runs

CMA'S early season form was halted as they fell to a heavy home defeat to Hatherley & Reddings 2nds.

After being asked to bat, Hatherley & Reddings made slow progress initially as George Dolling and Charlie Viney kept things tight early on with Viney picking up the first wicket in the fourth over.

Having bowled 2.4 overs without conceding a run, Viney pulled up with an injury and was unable to bowl for the remainder of the innings.

Ben Holloway and Gareth Udal were introduced to the attack and both men picked up an LBW as they continued to limit the scoring rate. Pete Hall came into the attack and collected three wickets during his nine over spell as his spin saw two batsmen sky catches to the outfielders and another batsman return a simple caught and bowled chance which Hall duly took.

Ryan Western picked up a wicket with his first ball of the season as he trapped opener Green LBW for 38. Cam fielded well throughout with only a couple of very tough catches going amiss. This was exemplified through a runout apiece for brothers Adam and Ben Holloway as Cam continued to pick up regular wickets. Some lower order hitting saw the away side reach 166-9, a competitive total but one Cam would have felt confident of chasing down.

Cam’s reply began cautiously as Jake Dolbear and Udal found their feet, Dolbear played some nice strokes before chopping on for 17. Following this early breakthrough Cam lost wickets with increasing regularity as opening bowler Mahmud accounted for Gareth Udal, Ben Deakin, Adam Holloway, Alex Ballard, and Pete Hall as his spell of 5-21 ripped the heart out of the Cam top order.

With plenty of overs left, Cam knew that one big partnership would go a long way to getting them back in the contest. It wasn’t to be, however, as Western and Philp both mistimed shots from full tosses by young bowler Niblett to be caught, before Dolling and Viney were dismissed by Dent soon after. Ben Holloway remained not out on 10 as Cam fell to a thoroughly disappointing 65 all out. Cam travel to Tetbury next Saturday searching for a victory to propel them back into the top two.
