CAM’S Fred Adams is hoping to become a double British motor cycling champion this year.

The 23-year-old is within a point of winning the British Extreme Enduro Championships after three of the four rounds of the competition.

And Adams is flying high at the top of the British Enduro Championships after four stages of the nine-round competition.

Extreme Enduro is an off-road contest where riders battle not only the race track but large obstacles that are in their way.

Enduro is a discipline where riders tackle a course against the clock need to pass check points in a set time. They also compete in ‘special stages’, similar to rallying, with the combined times for the check points element and the special stages totalled together to decide the winner.

So far, Adams, who rides a KTM EXC 300cc bike, has been riding high in both. He said: “I won the first three stages of the Extreme Enduro and I have got a twenty point lead in the championship.

“I really only need to win one more point for it. The final stage is in August.”

As for the British Enduro Championships, where he competes in the Clubman Class, Adams said: “It is nine rounds and we have completed four of them so far.

“I have had a fourth place, third, second and a first place. The first two rounds were in Lossiemouth in Scotland and then we were in Helmsley in Yorkshire.”

And if the man from Cam takes the titles, he hopes to progress to the top level of amateur Enduro riding which is the Expert Class.

He said: “This is the top privateer class before you go pro (professional).”

Adams, whose extended family are motor cycling enthusiasts, has, however, no plans to become a professional.

“It would be nice but I have only just started up my own business which is a motor cycle workshop. It is all about the time and money that you have to invest in it to turn pro, but I would like to go well in the Expert category.”
