FOREST Green Rovers chairman and Ecotricity founder Dale Vince doesn't expect to see any less of David Drew, despite his election win and stepping aside as FGR vice-chairman.

Chatting to the SNJ and Gazette following David Drew's surprise win to reclaim the Stroud constituency from the Conservatives and Neil Carmichael, Dale is delighted for Stroud.

Before the election, the FGR chairman had made it clear that he was voting Labour due to the Conservatives 'killing off' the renewable energy industry in the past seven years.

On last Thursday's election result nationally and in Stroud he said: "I'm delighted really in both cases, I'm delighted for the people of Stroud and for David.

"He's a great local MP and it’s a great thing for Labour nationally.

“[David] will speak up for Stroud and can argue for a sensible Brexit.

“I’m very pleased with the result and I think Jeremy Corbyn has expelled his critics – he now looks like a prime minister in waiting.

“Before the election he was being bashed by the press and Theresa May came across weak, she has been exposed by the spotlight.

“I don’t think people wanted a hard Brexit and Corbyn spoke for the 48 per cent.

“A hung parliament is a brilliant result for the country.

The Conservatives have proposed an alliance with Northern Ireland’s Democratic Unionists Party after falling short of an overall majority with 318 seats (eight short) they needed the DUP’s 10 MPs to take them over the finish line.

Following this the DUP have been at the centre of the attention following the proposed coalition due to their anti-abortion and creationist views, alongside allegations that their policies are homophobic.

On this alliance, Dale said: “It’s the most incredible hypocrisy, it’s desperation to stay in power.

“Before the election the Conservatives were talking about Labour as having the potential to form a coalition of chaos and the first thing she does is reach out to the DUP.

“They’re probably the most non-progressive party in the entire UK – of the parties that have MPs.”

Speaking of David’s choice to step down as FGR vice-chairman and involvement in the proposed Eco Park, Dale said: “I understand why he did it, it’s been fun working with him.

“He’s a big fan, I don’t expect to see any less of him, he’ll be at every game unless he can’t make it.”

A replacement has been chosen to fill the vice-chairman spot, and an announcement is expected later this week.
