WHITMINSTER seconds are ten points clear at the top of the Stroud and District League Martin Berrill Division One after a convincing victory over Oldlands seconds on Saturday.

A deadly bowling display saw the attack of Sam Haddock, Alex Dawber and Neil Lovegrove rip Oldlands apart.

Oldlands, on their own ground, won the toss and chose to bat but were soon under the cosh as Whitminster’s bowlers went on the rampage.

Only opener and captain Jason Savage, with ten runs, and number six Ashley Collard, with 11, reached double figures as their side was all out for just fifty runs in 19.5 overs.

The Whitminster bowling dominance resulted in Dawber returning figures of 5-22 from his 9.5 overs.

Lovegrove was even more impressive as his two overs were both maidens and he rattled the stumps three times to return remarkable figures of 3-0.

Haddock was at the other end from Dawber and struck once in his eight overs for figures of 1-27.

Remarkably, eight out of the ten wickets were clean bowled with one caught and the other a run-out.

The small target caused Whitminster seconds no problems in their reply as openers Dawbar and Brian Haddock took their side past the victory mark in just 7.1 overs.

Captain Dawbar hit twenty and Haddock scored 22 with nine extras to give them a ten wicket verdict with a total of 51-0.
