Gloucestershire County League Division Two

Cam 106-1 beat Chipping Sodbury 2nds 102 ao by nine wickets

HAVING taken eight wins from nine in the first half of the Gloucestershire County League Division Two season, Cam began the second half in the same blistering form with a dominant nine-wicket victory over Chipping Sodbury seconds.

Having batted first in the majority of games this season, Cam were asked to field first by the away captain and set about their unfamiliar task well as Gareth Udal made the early breakthrough as he bowled Tom Makepeace for 12.

With Chipping Sodbury well placed on 36-1 a flurry of wickets from Cam’s George Dolling saw the home side seize control of the game.

Dolling took a wicket in four consecutive overs as he clean bowled Ben Makepeace, Chris Young, Jake Havard and Simon Vooght to return figures of 4-40 from his nine overs.

By this point, Cam were in complete control and first change bowlers Ryan Western and Pete Hall ensured that the away side would not recover as they continued to limit scoring opportunities and take regular wickets.

Robert Mozelewski (27) provided the only innings of note from the remaining batsmen before he was caught by Alex Ballard off the bowling of Western.

Pete Hall collected two wickets in identical fashion as Bryan Jater and Sam Vile drove to Adam Philp at mid-on as both men fell cheaply.

Ryan Western (2-23) continued to bowl with patience and accuracy and was rewarded as he bowled Richard Lane, before Hall (3-14) wrapped up the innings as he had Reece Packer held in the deep by Dolling as Cam bowled out their opponents for 102 in 30.1 overs.

With Chipping Sodbury’s innings ending prematurely, both captains agreed to begin the second innings before the tea break.

Cam’s openers Jake Dolbear and Gareth Udal batted with good intent as they regularly found the boundary, with Dolbear cracking four fours from a single over and Udal smashing two big sixes from the next as they raced to a fifty partnership in just the eighth over.

With the score on 71 and with Dolbear approaching a half century, he was trapped LBW to depart for 37 from 39 balls.

Ben Holloway joined Udal at the crease and it didn’t take long for the two men to knock off the remaining runs, with Holloway hitting a quick-fire 19 from just 12 balls whilst Udal finished on 39 from 54 balls as Cam reached their target for the loss of just one wicket in the 18th over.

Cam’s victory takes them 43 points clear at the top of Division Two of the Gloucestershire County League as they travel to Thornbury seconds on Saturday looking to extend their winning streak.
