FOREST Green Rovers have finally resolved the issue of their midfielder Liam Noble by re-signing the ace on a new three-year contract.

Only last Friday, chairman Dale Vince had to issue a statement regarding claims made by Notts County that he told them £100,000 would be enough to secure Noble’s return to the East Midlands.

Notts County owner Alan Hardy told the Nottingham Post: “The whole saga has been a shambles. We feel we have been sold down the river all the way through. Goalposts have been repeatedly been moved.

“We always knew they wanted £100,000 and because that’s what was intimated to us, we inched towards it until we offered the entire lot up front.”

But Vince blasted back: “We have received a series of bids for Liam, the first we considered to be a joke. Their latest ‘final’ bid we received was not for £100k as their owner claimed in the press. Equally, the claim made about us suggesting they could double that amount and still not get him is also false.”

But the situation is resolved and the Newcastle born player has penned a new deal.

A stand-out performer throughout the last campaign, the 26-year-old found the back of the net nine times and provided 24 assists.

He actually joined Forest Green from Notts County in June 2016, where he had spent two seasons.

He was a leading influence in the climb into the National League play-offs last season and the 3-1 play-off final victory over Tranmere Rovers in May.

Now, Noble is set to play another big role in Forest Green’s debut season in League Two.

Speaking on the Forest Green website, Noble said: “I’m delighted. There was obviously a lot of speculation over the summer but I am a Forest Green player and happy to be here to go again for another few years.

“We won at Wembley and I wanted to stay. As soon as I spoke to the chairman and manager about a new deal, it was a no brainer to stay because I think the club are going places”

He has penned a new deal despite having a season to run on the deal he originally signed.
