Gloucestershire Northern Senior League Division Two

Dursley Town 1 Abbeymead Rovers 1

DURSLEY Town were unable to claim their first victory of the new league season as they were held to a draw by Abbeymead at the Rec on Saturday afternoon.

This clash of two of the bottom four sides from last season’s Northern Senior Two was hardly a classic, although Town fought back well after conceding early on.

Kieran Austin was responsible for the Dursley equaliser as he was fouled inside the penalty area before converting the resultant penalty kick.

Neither side took the game by the scruff of the neck after the break and a point was viewed as a fair result by all in the end.

* Dursley Reserves began their Stroud League Division Four campaign with a 3-2 home defeat against their Barnwood counterparts at the Rec.

Holidays and other unavailability had Ben Smith’s side down to the bare bones, but they put in a creditable performance where they twice took the lead.

Smith and strike partner Ed Robinson each set the other up for first-half goals, but it was level at the break as the Gloucester side hit back on both occasions.

Barnwood certainly had the better of the second period, though, and they scored their winner with 20 minutes remaining from a rebound off the crossbar.
