LAST weekend was a tale of the new and the old for Dursley Running Club.

A host of DRC athletes were at South Cerney to complete their first Sprint Relay Triathlon whilst one of the club’s veteran athletes was showing what he was made of during the weekend.

Dave Wood was at play, completing the Brecon Beacons 10 Peaks Ultra.

In the organiser’s own words: “Starting from race headquarters in Talybont-on-Usk, the athletes traverse along some spectacular ridge lines, tackling some torrid climbs.”

Wood started at 5am on Saturday and finished at Talybont at 11.23pm that evening.

He completed the course in a total of 18 hours 12 minutes, coming 30th out of field of 71 and first MV50, a very impressive day’s running as well as navigating!

Elated with his performance, he posted: “Awesome day, great bunch of people. Wind, rain, mountains and mud. I can’t say it wasn’t tough but well pleased.”

The Great North Run saw some impressive performances by the five DRC athletes who made it into the race, all showing good pacing over the 13.1 mile course.

Neil Hodgson was a very impressive 220th with a controlled 81-minute run.

Mark Sprigings continues to deliver consistent Half Marathon times, another DRC runner who could get to 85 minute standard.

Steve Watson finished with a PB in just under 96 and Andy Hara also ran a best in just over 99 minutes and thought he was at the back.

The Lantern Rouge was in fact Emma Denton who ran an amazing one hour forty minutes, given she had completed a Tough Mudder the day before!
