West Clubs Women’s Hockey League Berkeley Division One
Clifton Robinsons 4ths 1 Wotton-Under-Edge 6
WOTTON-Under-Edge ladies arrived for the first league game of the season in the blazing sun and they were determined to give the spectators a match worth watching, which they duly did with a spectacular 6-1 win.
As the game kicked off, Wotton attacked hard winning most of the 50-50 balls and having most of the possession.
Wotton soon found themselves with a short corner which was calmly placed into the goal by Jasmin George.
Unfortunately, soon after Clifton levelled the score with their very own short corner goal.
Wotton ladies were determined not to let the 1-1 score line phase them and instead pushed harder with a second wave of energy.
Alaina Herbert, Cathy York and Kathleen Burden worked tirelessly in defence scooping up any stray balls and pushing them forward to Olivia Green and Naomi Culpepper, who, alongside Lauren Jones fed numerous balls to the attackers.
Eventually the goals came flooding in thick and fast with Millie Mayer scoring from a straight strike deflected off a defender’s stick.
Next was another from George from open play. followed by a hat-trick from layer-of-the-match Lauren Leyland to make the score line 6-1.
