LAST weekend saw Cotswold Edge Golf Club hold their Finals Day – concluding all the knock-out matches which have been running throughout the season.

The majority of the men’s competitions were held over 36 holes whilst the ladies and mixed were over 18 holes.

Seniors County champion Vern Chappell won the Tom Turley from club captain Gary Swift 3&1.

Rich Smith beat Warren Pendred 7&5 to win the Darville Plate whilst John Cullimore overcame Steve Bishop on the 18th to win the Campbell Cup 1 up.

Ali Buncher & Steve Devaney took the honours in the Mixed Knock Out winning 6&5 from Andy and Lin Cocking.

Dee Allen added a second trophy to her haul by winning the Anna Blackler Trophy from Jean Strickland 2&1.

Earlier in the week, Dee had won the County Lady Marling Cup for the bronze division with nett 71.

Julie Cruickshank also did extremely well to win two of the ladies finals beating Lin Cocking 5&4 for the Bronze Trophy and Lynda Pearce 3&2 for the Merry Vase. Anne Crawley won the Harris Cup from Jane Rowell 5&3.

Some very good score were returned in the Wotton Probus Pairs Cup, a pairs stableford competition which was won by Phil Hale & Brian McTear with 45 points from Mark Davies & Steve Fairman 41 and James Barnes & Mike Ward 40.

The annual Bronwyn Sleigh Trophy, a greensomes match between the Seniors and Ladies Section was hotly contested with lots of good humour and banter – the Seniors narrowly won 3.5-2.5 and everyone enjoyed a meal together afterwards in the clubhouse.

Julie Paulett won the ladies Autumn Jug, a stroke play competition held over two alternate days to allow working ladies to take part.

Julie was well ahead of the rest of field returning a nett 72 from Lyn Smart 77 and Anne-Marie Bignell 78.
