Gloucestershire County League

Frampton United 2 AEK Boco 1

FRAMPTON United won their fourth Gloucestershire County League clash of the season as they condemned AEK Boco to their first league defeat of the season.

However, Frampton, who led for 72 minutes after going ahead from a corner scrambled home by Steve Jackson on three minutes, found themselves on the back foot for a large proportion of the game.

Frampton showed great resilience in defence although Boco were unlucky twice in the first half when they struck the crossbar twice, once from Harrison Kyte on 24 minutes and then a Kyte free kick from the left was headed onto the bar by Jack Winter on 37 minutes.

In between Jordan Scott hit a low shot straight at keeper Frazer Wilson, then, in rare attack by the home side, Stuart Maule could have made it 2-0 five minutes before the break but headed over the bar.

Boco’s Brad Wheadon saw his shot on goal fisted away by Wilson in the first minute of the second-half.

Shots from Liam Jenkins and Liam Powell went just wide of the Frampton goal and at the other end a last ditch tackle from Boco defender Joe Reeves deflected Ryan Vincent’s shot out for a corner.

Midway through the half the visitors were screaming for a penalty but the referee gave them a corner.

Constant pressure from Boco saw the home defence just pumping long balls out of defence up to the one player left up field but it constantly came back, then a long ball from Boco keeper Joe Pople was headed on into the home box Frampton keeper came steaming of his line, misjudged the bounce and Kyte was left with the simple task of sliding the ball into an empty net.

With just three minutes of the match left, Frampton substitute Jonathon Lewis broke into the Boco box and got his shot on target but Pople had closed him down and the ball deflected off of the keeper for a corner.

Right on time, the home side had a great chance to make it 2-1 when Lewis got to the by-line, squared the ball back for Maule but he his shot wide.

A minute into added time, Frampton were awarded a corner on the right which was sent over to the far post by Manolo Marquez Espada and defender Jack Bartman rose above the Boco defence to send a bullet header past the keeper. Within a few seconds, the game was over and Frampton had claimed a backs-to-the-wall and famous victory.

Frampton also have the luxury of having two games in hand on the rest of the league, and go into the second round of the Gloucestershire FA Trophy on Saturday where they are away to Newent Town on Saturday.
