IN some way, it was a shame that the international break came along last weekend as it would have been great for City to have continued the momentum that has taken us to an impressive fourth in the Championship table.

We are now just four points off the leaders Cardiff City and three points adrift of second, currently occupied by Wolverhampton Wanderers, which is one of the automatic promotion places to the Premier League.

From where we were 12 months ago, propping up the table and standing in a very bad place, the turnaround from last season has been quite remarkable.

And it that achievement has been recognised with two major awards to the club. Manager Lee Johnson has taken the Championship Manager of the Month award for September, with outstanding Aden Flint getting the Player of the Month gong.

Superb things are happening at Ashton Gate but we now have to keep the momentum going because, while it is all really good to get off to a flyer as we have done, consistency in performance and results will keep us up there with those challenging for the honours and that promotion to the highest league in English football by the end of the season.

Yet it is worth slapping the management and players on the back at the moment and congratulating them on a couple of wonderful months. In all, we have won eight times in all competitions and drawn five.

Our only defeat this season came at Birmingham back on August 12, so a win against Burton Albion at Ashton Gate on Friday will mean we have gone two months undefeated. Few would have believed that this time in 2016.

Not everything is good at the club, however, and Bailey Wright’s injury while on international duty for Australia last weekend makes him a doubt to face Burton.

He was out of the Aussie’s squad to face Syria in a World Cup play-off last Friday due to suspension but was expected to be included in the second leg on Tuesday before a training ground glute problem – a rear end injury – forced him to fly back to the UK.

News on whether Wright makes it is likely to be announced towards the end of the week when Johnson names his squad for the clash.

And after Friday night’s clash, City will be preparing themselves for another giant side visiting Ashton Gate when Leeds United arrive on Saturday week.
