Berkeley Division One

Wotton-under-Edge 4 Lydney 1

WOTTON-under-Edge Ladies first team hit the pitch with a gleam in their eyes and a lust for goals.

Socks hoisted up and gum shields at the ready, Lydney’s possession from the off was short-lived and impressive triangle work from Great Britain athlete Jas George and the tenacious Elodie Sparrow sent Wotton charging forward, subsequently Sparrow pocketed the ball around the keeper, smashing the backboard.

An audacious tackle from the enigmatic Elodie resulted in her injury, she remained brave but had to take the bench.

Wotton kept up this narrative, to later be awarded a short corner.

The textbook move worked as expected, with Jas George finding the target.

Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end and some quick work from a Lydney break away set the scoreboard at 2-1.

But Wotton-under-Edge Ladies are not the type to be beaten so easily.

Smooth skills from Alaina Herbert and Cathy York kept the opposition at bay.

The push from the inners Myra Patterson and Beccy Jones allowed Wotton to continue their attack.

Conviction from the midfield sent the ball forward once more, a short corner then followed and the player with the a lot of power in her armoury, Millie Mayer, sent the ball rocketing through the keepers legs and into the net.

Wotton continued to push hard, with work from skipper Izzy Grimes keeping their drives high and Wotton continued their attack.

A foot in the D gave Wotton a final short corner.

The ball bounced out to Loz who found the net.

Tirelessly, Wotton-under-Edge Ladies remained hostile, with the teams grit and will to succeed getting them over the line and securing an impressive victory.
