Dursley 18 Brockworth 32

DURSLEY’S Gloucester One season took another twist on Saturday as they went down to defeat against Brockworth, who were below them in the table, by 32-18.
It was a bad result following victory over Bredon Star the previous Saturday as Dursley face a real big test this weekend when they travel to third-placed Cheltenham North who beat Widden Old Boys last Saturday.
Dursley won the toss and decided to kick off with the autumn wind behind them.
The pitch was draining from a late downpour which made handling a little sticky.
Dursley started well and, after several rucks and moves up the Brockworth half, Andy Butler dashed off the back of a ruck, made a scrum half’s sniping run, threw several dummies and touched down to the left of the Brockworth posts.
Brockworth quickly attacked in the Dursley 22 and won a penalty, kicked it and made the score 5-3.
Dursley attacked hard from the restart and forced an error from the Brockworth backs deep within the visitors 22.
It was in front the posts and Grant Boucher duly booted the penalty to increase the lead only for Brockworth to reply with their own penalty soon afterwards.
But Brockworth went into half-time in the lead after they had several phases deep within the Dursley 22 and heroic defence by Dursley resulted in the inevitable non clearance. Brockworth scored the try and duly converted to take the lead 13-8.
Brockworth kicked off the second half and immediately pressured Dursley.
The home side had several good phases of winning the ball but could not get it up the field.
Brockworth scored from the back of a maul and duly converted to stretch their lead further.
Again at the restart, Dursley played well to get into the Brockworth half, threatening on several occasions.
But they could not join up the play to get over the try line. On one of these forays, Brockworth stole the ball and Dursley were forced in to a maul in there own 22.
Brockworth used the rolling maul again to an unconverted try.
Dursley now had a mountain to climb at 25-8 down but threatened to score several times.
They forced an error from Brockworth with Boucher booting the penalty.
Brockworth stole the ball again from Dursley and mauled again up the pitch.
After heroic defence by Dursley, the referee adjudged that Butler came in at the side from a revolving maul.
It cost the scrum-half ten minutes in the sin bin but it did stop an inevitable try.
Brockworth made short work of the subsequent penalty tap and go and went over in the corner for a converted try converted and a 32-11 score.
Dursley did not give up and, with only five minutes left and deep within their own 22, winger Joe McGough collected the ball and ran in a try under the Brockworth posts  that Boucher converted.
It was a disappointing loss for Dursley who were punished harshly by Brockworth.
The visitors capitalised in grabbing the advantage.
Dursley need to look at a few areas over the next week to ensure that they can capitalise on their key team strengths.
