DURSLEY head coach Alan Evans has told his players they need to focus more before the start of games.
The Dursley boss gave his side a roasting after their dismal 32-18 home defeat to Brockworth on Saturday in the Gloucester One League.
It means that Evans’ side are now mid-table and have three wins from seven matches with the Brockworth loss a particularly galling one as they were below the home team before kick-off.
Now, with inspirational skipper Jack Robson due back in the team this weekend, Evans has told his squad to get their game heads on an hour before kick-off and ‘not talk about last night’s pizza’.
The head coach said: “We were missing a few against Brockworth but there were no excuses. We lost our way a bit.”
They face a tough one this weekend when they travel to third-placed Cheltenham North, and Evans said: “We seem to do well away but not at home. We had a chat after the game last week (28-23 win at Bredon Star) and I said that an hour before kick-off, they should be talking about the job in hand and they are all guilty of taking a relaxed build-up.
“I left them to it last Saturday and they lost. I said to them afterwards ‘how does it feel to lose like that against Brockworth who you thought you would give a good spanking to?’ “They need to have a bit more focus about the game although there is no doubt about the ability of the boys.”
On the pitch, Evans thinks Dursley also need to clean up a few other matters. The coach added: “Game management is massive and discipline on the pitch needs to be right as well.”
