Berkeley Division Two

Dursley Ladies 4 Thornbury 1

DURSLEY welcomed back Hattie Dent after several years at university and her presence helped Dursley secure a first victory of the season.

Thornbury started the match the better and the home team defence of Hayley Able, Linzi Moulder, Stacey Smith, Clare Rodgers and Kirstie Weymen were hard pressed.

Rodgers cleared off the line and Able made a good save. When Dursley did attack Clhloe McGregor was foiled by the visiting keeper.

The introduction of Dent changed the game, her speedy runs and crosses from the right were always threatening. From one of these Amber Coombes scored the opening goal.

Chloe Stevenson and Charlie Strickland were also prominent. From another Dent cross Pip Spyvee was able to strike the ball home.

The Thornbury keeper kept Dursley at bay until another Dent cross found Catlin Cother unmarked and able to score to give the home team a 3-0 half time lead.

Shortly after the break Thornbury forced the ball home from a goalmouth scramble and secured a number of short corners which were dealt with by the home defence with Pip Cory showing much tenacity in her tackling.

The scoring was completed when Dent took the ball around a Thornbury defender near the halfway line and went clear before placing a hard shot just inside the post.

A well deserved goal for Dent. This result took Dursley off the bottom of the table.
