Wotton-under-Edge Ladies 3 Stroud 0

AFTER last week’s draw, Wotton were eager to get back on form and secure a win.

The first goal came early from a cross from Lauren Jones at the 25 to Tarragon Newcombe who drove along the baseline and flicked the ball behind the keeper to put wotton 1-0 up.

The second came from the tenacious Jasmin George where clearly all of her skilful runs and blinding tackles payed off when she took a strike, the backboard thundered as the ball was confidently put in the goal. Bam 2-0 to Wotton.

As the first half drew to a close, Wotton consolidated over a jelly baby or two and went back out stronger than ever. Although a close Stroud short corner saw Kathleen Burden in having a cracker of a goal line save. Wotton’s robust defenders Alaina Herbert and Natalie Groome had patience and skill while play was transferred.

The Wotton goal was in safe hands with goalie Jo York (Cathy York), on top form as per usual, making some fantastic saves. With storming runs from attackers Millie Mayer (Sarah Rees Mayer) and Elodie Sparrow saw Wotton with many chances up in Strouds D.

After many unlucky, though well executed, short corners from Wotton the third and final goal was yet again by the one and only Jas George once again introducing ball to backboard.

Overall it was a fantastic team performance with captain Izzy Grimes feeling proud and very pleased with still being the best defended team in the league. Bring on next week...
