Girls U16s
Wotton-under-Edge 1 Old Bristolians 1
TWO weeks ago, Wotton U16s Girls’ team battled against OBs and were soundly beaten, today they had a chance to set the record straight, and whilst not a win, they were definitely the stronger side.
Wotton started brightly, with the midfield determined to stamp their authority on the game.
Captain Olivia Green, marshalled those around her from the centre of the park (Maisie McPhail, Lucy Driver, Ellie Green, Jen Weston, Hannah Cox) and the chances started to come.
Abby Phillips, Imogen Sparrow and Millie Mayer caused panic on numerous occasions with their direct running.
Half way through the first half, a moment of pass-and-move hockey resulted in Wotton ripping through the OB’s defence only for the ball to bounce back off the post, but fall kindly to McPhail to find the back of the net.
OBs then turned on the pressure, but the defence (Pip Eames, Peggy Sue Phillips, Evie Priestley, Susie York) withstood all they could throw at us, and on the rare occasion they broke through they found the impassable figure of Wotton’s keeper, Jo York in their way.
OBs did equalise early in the second half with a scrappy goal, but Wotton can take heart that they bossed the majority of the game against a strong side.
