YOUNG jockey Harvey Barfoot-Saunt, from Huntingford near Wotton-under-Edge, has celebrated Christmas with a trip to the world famous Ascot racecourse to receive prizes won in a national championship.

Harvey, nine, a member of the Berkeley Hunt South Pony Club, achieved success in The Pony Club Champion Safetywear Series 2017 in the 148cm and under class Riding his pony the Buggy Girl, Harvey achieved third place in the competition, which was run over the course of the year.

He received his prizes of a rosette and certificate in a televised ceremony which was viewed by racing fans across the country.

In response to his success, Harvey said : “I was very excited to get the letter and so was my whole family. I did not ever expect to come third in the championships.

“I'd like to thank my Pony Club District Commissioner, the Pony Club supporters and helpers, the racecourse, my wonderful pony and of course my mum.

“My plans for my racing future are to win the championships and to turn professional in racing.”
