DURSLEY claimed a brilliant victory over the unbeaten Old Elizabethans at Stinchcombe on Saturday.

The hosts immediately applied the pressure from the kick off, forcing a knock on from Old E’s.

The resulting scrum was strong from Dursley and ball popped out to Ben Cole who charged through with a tap and collection, stepping the OldE’s full back and powering over to score. Boucher added the conversion to make it 7-0.

After a frantic start the game became more even and Old E’s soon added a penalty of their own to make the score 7-3.

It was the hosts who struck next after a poor Old E’s clearance, allowed Chris Perrett to find Duncan Goodison who passed out to Sam Powell who proceeded to score to the left of the Old E’s posts. Boucher again converted making it 14 – 3.

Following the restart Dursley were given a yellow card for a wreckless high tackle and were down to 14 men.

Old E’s capitalised and good work from the nine and 10 allowed them to make a gap in the Dursley defence and crash over for a try which was duly converted

Score 14 – 10 at Half time.

Old E’s kicked off the second half with Dursley still playing with 14 men.

However, this failed to stop the hosts and after being awarded a scrum in the Old E’s the ball was popped out wide for an another try. Boucher converted to make the score 21 – 10.

Dursley looked to apply further pressure from the Old E’s restart and this showed with the visitors receiving two yellow cards within five minutes of each infringement.

Old E’s were down to 13 men and some teams would have gone to pieces and played a defensive game at best here against a stronger Dursley forward pack.

However, Old E’s thought nothing of it. They were stung into action and played some of their best rugby of the afternoon, breaking down the Dursley defensive line and scoring next to the posts, the try was converted making it 21 – 17.

Old E’s again applied immense pressure to a mid-match slumbering Dursley, who seemed to have lost their concentration.

Old E’s scored again from a maul deep in the Dursley 22, the conversion was in the far corner at an acute angle and they failed to add the extras, leaving the score at 21 – 22, with about six minutes to play.

Dursley came back at the visitors and applied pressure from the restart but Old E’s were holding firm.

However, the home side refused to give in and from a maul, the ball was worked out wide and Sam Powell threw a dummy, stepped one defender, and crashed over the line to score. Boucher converted to make the score 28-22 and give Dursley victory.
