ALEX Griffith netted his third goal in two matches as bottom-of-the-table Dursley claimed a rare and morale-boosting point against visiting Smiths at the Rec on Saturday afternoon.

Playing with the wind, the visitors made the better start and would have taken the lead through Louie Barnfather only for Keith Watson to somehow turn his point-blank header onto the crossbar.

However, Barnfather, a former Southern League goalkeeper who once earned a call-up to the full Gibraltar national squad, eventually fired a 30-yard shot in off the bar for the 40th-minute opener.

A minute before the break, though, Jay Alsop crossed from the right and Griffith, seemingly caught between controlling the ball and shooting, looped an effort over the goalkeeper for the equaliser.

Dursley had the better of the game after the break, but could not find a way through as Kieran Austin had an effort saved, while George Mack, Nathan Vines and Liam Wood all shot wide.

Smiths had their chances as well, though, with one goal ruled out for offside, while Watson pushed away a free-kick and saved a driven effort that came through a crowd late in the game.

u Dursley Reserves, who this week had to field veteran defender Chris Wilkins in goal, were beaten 5-0 at their high-flying Tredworth counterparts in Division Four of the Stroud League.

u Yazmin Laver scored a consolation goal as Dursley Ladies were beaten 10-1 in a bizarre game against runaway Gloucestershire County Women’s League Division One leaders Frampton Rangers.

All 11 goals came during a first half when Town struggled with both the quality of the opposition and the artificial surface at GFA headquarters, although they salvaged some pride after the break by drawing the second half.
