ROVERS slumped to a disappointing defeat at AFC Wimbledon on Saturday after conceding a goal in injury time.

We had been in good form going into the fixture, with confidence high after victories over Oxford and Rochdale, and had moved to within five points of the top six.

Although thoughts of making a late challenge for the play-offs seemed ambitious, hopes were high that another win on Saturday could push us a step closer.

But it looked unlikely as a dour game seemed to be meandering towards a draw, until Dons substitute Joe Pigott delivered a cruel blow in the third minute of stoppage time by planting a header into the net.

It was disappointing to see him outjump recent signing Craig to score the goal, although the former Millwall defender has mostly looked a solid and reliable addition to the team since joining the club.

It was a game of few chances and we only mustered two shots on target in the contest and just three corners, as we failed to replicate the recent energy and dominance we had shown on our travels.

The defeat saw the Pirates slip to 12th in the table, six points off the play-offs.

Off the pitch, it was reassuring the hear owner Wael Al-Qadi tell fans this week that work is continuing behind the scenes on plans to redevelop the Memorial Stadium.

If we are to push for promotion to the Championship in the near future it is vital to upgrade the woefully inadequate facilities we currently have and we eagerly await further news on any progress.

The players need to show a big improvement in their performance as we face two tough looking games at the Mem in the next week.

First up is fifth placed Scunthorpe on Saturday, followed by an encounter with promotion favourites Wigan on Tuesday, who currently lie in second place.

They will be a good test for the squad and if we play to our full potential there is no reason why we cannot secure at least one win from those games.
