Swindon Supermarine 8 Slimbridge 0

SLIMBRIDGE were denied playing their Evo Stik Southern, West league clash at Swindon Supermarine three times this season but they could be forgiven for wishing it had been postponed yet again on Tuesday evening.

The first time of trying was back in November but the game had to be abandoned due to a serious injury on the pitch.

Then, when the teams tried again, the weather intervened and it was postponed twice more. Now, with the weekend snow falling and then melting, it could have been that Supermarine’s pitch was waterlogged.

However, the two sides managed to get the match on – and, for the Swans, it turned into something of a disaster as they went down to their heaviest defeat of the campaign so far.

And it means that Slimbridge are now just one place above bottom-but-one side Barnstaple Town – with the sides meeting at Thornhill Park in a huge six-pointer this Saturday.

Supermarine’s Bradley Gray was the main thorn in Slimbridge’s side on Tuesday. He grabbed a hat-trick inside four minutes either side of the interval that effectively finished the game for the Swans after Joe Sleman scored the opener on 16 minutes.

Connor Thompson made it five before Gray hit his fourth of the night. Just to rub salt into the wounds, Zak Westlake and Joe Selman added two more goals on 85 and 88 minutes respectively.
