City are now drinking in the last chance saloon as far as their 2017/18 season promotion hopes go, following a 2-1 defeat at play-off place rivals Middlesbrough on Saturday.

Prior to the game City were just 3 points off sixth place Millwall but now, with just 3 games to play, we sit in 11th position and 4 points off the play-off zone.

It goes without saying that in order to make the end of season play-off lottery we will have to win all 3 remaining games. On paper, they do look winnable.

First up are Hull City this Saturday at Ashton Gate (3pm). The Tigers have struggled in the lower half of the table for most of the season and City recorded a dramatic 3-2 win at the KCOM Stadium back in November.

Our home form has actually been pretty good of late with 3 wins from our last 4. Hull are all but safe from relegation and so the game will certainly have that end of season feel to it. Victory would certainly keep us in the mix going into a fixture the following Saturday (3pm) away to Nottingham Forest; another club that has struggled for much of the season.

Like Hull, Forest are as good as safe from relegation and so will have little to play for. They are also on poor form having won just once in their last 6 games. City’s away form this year has however been – to put it mildly – shocking. So, if are play-off hopes are to remain alive we will have to do something we haven’t done all year – win an away game.

If we manage it then there is a good chance it’ll still be all to play for against Sheffield United on the last day of the season at Ashton Gate. The Blades have had a great season in their first season back in the Championship and could well still be in the play-off mix themselves. It could be a marvellous occasion but the players need to take one game at a time, as nothing less than all 3 points against Hull on Saturday will do.
