Downend 2nds v Almondsbury 1sts

ALMONDSBURY fielded first in their clash against Downend and restricted their hosts to 231-9 off their 45 overs.

Ben Ford scored a fine 112 for the home side but received little support at the other end.

For Almondsbury, the wickets were evenly spread with Aaron Jones 6-1-34-2, Matt Smith 9-0-54-2, Liam Hartigan 9-2-52-2, Mike Frolich 6-0-36-2 and a tight spell from Andy Parkinson 9-1-26-1 as each bowler played their part.

In reply, Almondsbury found themselves in a precarious position at 178-6 with seven overs left despite a fine 64 from Matt Wood.

However, Aaron Jones found a willing partner in the reliable Dan Dunt and when he fell for a valuable 27, 35 were still required off the last three overs.

Nevertheless, Jones carried on undaunted by the task in hand flaying the ball to all parts of the boundary.

He eventually brought his side home with one ball to spare achieving an undefeated 73 in the process, leaving Almondsbury victors by two wickets and retaining their position at the top of the table.

Almondsbury 2nd xi v Bristol Malayalee 1st xi

Almondsbury took on fellow strugglers Bristol Malayalee on Saturday managing to grab victory from the jaws of defeat. The visitors batted first and were soon in trouble collapsing to 111-8 off 29 overs.

However they rallied round and eventually were dismissed for 144.

Sam Robertson 8-1-22-3, Jason Smith 9-0-31-2, Dean May 9-0-34-2, Alex Fordham 4-0-23-1, and a swift decisive spell of 0.3-0-1-2 from Dr Drew claiming the wickets.

In reply, with a combination of loose shots and the odd unplayable delivery, Almondsbury slipped to 83-7.

However, Alex Fordham knuckled down to the job in hand and together with Andrew Bull patiently ground their way through the overs eventually bringing Almondsbury home with 2 wickets to spare. Fordham finishing undefeated on 31 and Bull 8 not out.
