OVERALL, it was a busy weekend of the multi-sport part of Dursley Running Club, with team members competing all over the country.

The weekend started early for some with the Great North Swim in Windermere on Friday June 8.

Eleven DRC Tri Team members were competing across the full range of races.

Excellent results were achieved from the whole team with many significantly improving their swimming in order even to complete this significant challenge.

Conditions were superb for swimming with bright sunny conditions.

Results were: 10K (6 mile) Tara Truman 185th 03:46:22; 5K (3 mile) Trish Mansell 01:42:46; Zoe Lammerton 01:47:09; Chris Young 02:08:52; Fred Yearsley; 3K (2 mile) Sarah Wilcox 01:34:34; Karen Eaden; Jerry Fowler; Adam Cook; 1.5K (1 mile) Adam Cook 34:12; Zoe Fowler 42:19

Closer to home was the Wotton Triathlon on Sunday. The Wotton Traithlon is described as the perfect opportunity for novices and experienced athletes to participate side by side. Wotton Sprint Triathlon consists of a 366m swim in Wotton pool, a 22km cycle and then a 4km run through the beating heart of Wotton.

Paul Breen led DRC Tri team home with an excellent second overall in a time of one hour 17mins.

Next came Joe Browning one hour 24mins, ninth overall after a long lay-off and Team Zogper, (a relay team) consisting of Bev Cooper (Swim), Cara Zoglowek (Bike) and Laura Cooper (Run) came 31st in one hour 47mins.

Going rather further, Damian Lai completed the Ironman Staffordshire 70.3 on Sunday. The event consisted of a 1.2 mile swim in Chasewater Reservoir, a 56 mile bike course through the stunning countryside outside Lichfield, Bourton-on-Trent and Cannock Chase with a 13.1 mile run taking athletes around Stafford Town Centre. Damian Lai completed the event in an amazing 6:15:49 (swim 56min, bike 3:04hr, run 2:01hr) overall over an hour faster than last year’s seven hours 16:03mins. It was a fantastic performance from Damian who was cheered on by his family, despite hot conditions for running.

Overall it was a fantastic weekend for Dursley Running Club and DRC_Tri with some life-changing achievement.
