Cam go down to Corse and Staunton defeat

Cam 227 ao lost to Corse and Staunton 272-6 by 45 runs

CAM'S winning run was halted as they suffered a 45-run defeat in a high-scoring game at home to a strong Corse and Staunton side.

Cam found the going tough early on as Corse and Staunton openers Dannatt (49) and Tegg (39) provided an attacking start against opening bowlers George Dolling and Charlie Viney. The introduction of Ben Holloway saw Dannatt caught by Tom Deakin on the boundary before Pete Hall claimed the prized wicket of Tegg as an attempted sweep found the safe hands of Adam Ford.

Cox became Hall’s second wicket as he was bowled for 34 but the away side’s approach was paying off as they continued to pick up regular boundaries.

Cam could have made further inroads into the Corse batting lineup but missed chances and close decisions left them facing a challenging run chase.

Alex Ballard was brought into the attack and picked up the wickets of Turner (13) and Brown (37) thanks to catches from Ben Holloway and a diving catch from Hall on the boundary. Dudfield had moved on to 44, as the away side’s innings neared conclusion, before he holed out to Dolling off the bowling of Holloway.

Luck remained with the away side as they reached an imposing 273-6 from their 45 overs.

After an initial slow start to the innings, Ryan Malpass began to fire as he started to find the boundary regularly before he was bowled for 27.

Adam Holloway (14) was next to depart as he fell LBW to leave Cam on 73-2.

Jake Dolbear looked back to his best in a fluent knock of 41 before he edged behind to give Brown his first wicket.

Ballard was somewhat unfortunate to be given out soon after as he was adjudged LBW despite an apparent inside edge before the ball hit the pad.

Deakin (36) and Ben Holloway (23) teamed up in a quick-fire partnership as Cam kept the required run rate in check, both men finding the boundary consistently.

With the game in the balance, a disastrous few minutes saw the complexion of the game change as Holloway was run out chasing a fourth run from a misfield in the deep and then Deakin was bowled from the next ball to turn the game in Corse and Staunton’s favour.

Pete Hall played his usual attacking brand of cricket as he powered some big sixes to keep Cam in the game.

Hall found little support from the Cam lower order however, as Hancock, Dolling and Ford all departed cheaply off the bowling of Brown (4-48).

Hall muscled his way to fifty alongside last man Viney, but when the former was caught behind for 58 from 42 balls, Cam’s innings was over as they fell to defeat by 45 runs.
