ULEY grabbed only their second win from seven Stroud and District Martin Berrill Premier League matches on Saturday when they defeated Frocester fourths by a comprehensive seven wickets away at St Peters Field.

And, after a decent bowling display from Uley to restrict Frocester to 145-7 in their forty overs, they ran out winners, reaching their target within 27.4 overs.

Uley won the toss and put Frocester into bat. After a reasonable start by the home side, with opener John Evans making 26 before he was caught off the bowling of Dylan Williams, number three Ben French came in and held one end of the crease throughout the rest of the innings.

French finished on an unbeaten 44 as wickets fell around him. Tom Williams ended up with three victims for 36 runs as Frocester tottered to their total with only two other batsmen reaching double figures.

In reply, Uley were strong with the bat. Pierre Bell, the club captain, and Dylan Williams stood their ground for a while as openers before Bell was bowled for 40 as was Williams for 26.

But any thoughts that Frocester had of making Uley pay were soon put to bed. They could not break through the next two batsmen as Sean Sage made 27 and Ben Hughes bashed the ball around at the other end.

Both stood their ground against Frocester’s bowling, with Hughes finishing just short of his half-century on 45 not out.

And Uley will be looking to continue this form when they travel across to face Rockhampton thirds, who are just two places above Uley in mid-table, on Saturday at The Common.

Meanwhile, Whitminster stand on top of the table as their unbeaten run continues. They absolutely thrashed Chalford on Saturday, having been put into bat.

Openers Cook and Wakeley both hit centuries as Chalford could not get them out. Cook finished with 101 not out, while Wakeley contributed a massive 172 not out in Whitminster’s enormous 314-0 total in their forty overs.

In reply, Chalford were set a huge asking rate of 7.9 per over and did not get anywhere near winning the match as they finished their innings on 125-3, giving Whitminster a seven successive win of the season by 189 runs.
