Forest Green Rovers striker Andy Mangan waits for verdict on betting allegations

ANDY MANGAN is keeping his fingers crossed the FA investigation into alleged match-fixing will rule in his favour this week.

Mangan, 22, is currently under investigation by the FA. He is alleged to have placed £3,500 on his former club Bury to win at Accrington Stanley in the final game of the 2007-08 League Two season while still a player at Gigg Lane.

If found guilty, he could face a lengthy ban from football-which is a major reason no-one from the League has come in with a firm offer yet.

Mangan said: “It’s a terrible situation, but hopefully the FA will rule in my favour. I just want to clear my name, get this off my record and get on with playing football.”

Mangan, who won the Golden Boot with 26 goals last term, has rejected one contract offer from Forest Green, but is waiting on improved terms.

“I’ve had an offer from Forest Green which wasn’t what I wanted it to be.

“The gaffer (Jim Harvey) said he’ll try to get me more money and incentives and things like that.”

Forest Green’s squad is beginning to take shape after Mark Preece became the latest player to tie up a new deal for next season.

The former Bristol Rovers centre-back agreed terms following meetings between the club and his agent.

Preece, 22, established himself alongside Lee Ayres last season.

Left-back Paul Stonehouse is also expected to sign a new deal this week.

Rovers have already agreed new contracts with goalkeeper Terry Burton, Lee Ayres, Jonathan Smith, Conal Platt and Paul Lloyd.
