SUBSTITUTE Danny Chandler scored a late equaliser as Slimbridge fought back from 2-0 down to earn a point against Ascot.

The New Year hangover continued for the Swans when they went 1-0 down in the first minute after a great strike from the edge of the area by Sam McIntyre.

Slimbridge struggled to get going and were punished again on 14 minutes when Paul McGrotty scored a scrappy goal.

The home side gradually got into the game and pulled a goal back on the stroke of half-time when Tom Speers stooped to head home from a corner.

In an end to end second half, Slimbridge always looked more likely to score and three substitutes manager Leon Sterling, Chandler and Ross Langworthy all made a difference.

After a period of intense pressure Chandler was on hand to level terms.

The draw helped keep Slimbridge in third place and they visit struggling Witney United on Saturday.

Slimbridge are now ten points behind league leaders Ardley United, who lost 2-1 at second placed Kidlington on Tuesday night, but they have two games in hand.

l Slimbridge reserves have reached the semi-finals of the GFA Junior Cup after beating Cheltenham League side Butlers on Tuesday night.

Chris Sturmey and Dean Turner got the goals in a 2-0 win.
