National U19s Plate Semi-Final: Dursley 6 Old Brodleians 8

Gazette Series: Dursley under-19s Dursley under-19s

DURSLEY suffered heartache as they were knocked out of the national cup by Yorkshire side Old Brodleians in front of a large crowd.

The early pressure came from Dursley as they tried to find a way through, but Ed Sheldon’s runs could not get past the visitors’ defence. The deadlock was finally broken when Old Brodleians won a penalty after 28 minutes to take a 3-0 lead.

Dursley piled on the pressure but as they moved the ball across the backs, Mike Beswick couldn’t get past the last defender and was bundled into touch.

In the second half, play remained tight but Dursley won a penalty which Ryan Malpass converted to bring the scores level at 3-3.

Dursley then took the lead as Malpass landed a monster kick to make it 6-3.

Although Dursley held firm a number of times, the away side spun the ball wide and found space to score.

Dursley continued to push for a win but one last attack was thwarted.

Although naturally disappointed to go out of the competition at this late stage, and to lose their unbeaten home record in the process, Dursley can hold their heads high as they competed with some of the best teams in the country and only narrowly lost out in an entertaining closely fought game played in the best traditions of the game.
