STUART Fleetwood admitted that the speculation surrounding his future at Forest Green affected some of his performances.

The striker has scored 30 goals in all competitions this season, attracting the interest of many Championship and League One clubs, but has now failed to score in his last five games.

Speaking in the official Forest Green matchday programme before Saturday's game against Exeter City, he said: "When clubs originally started to show interest earlier on in the season the speculation really didn't affect me that much.

"But when we got to January 1 and the transfer window opened I had different people every day asking me if I would be leaving.

"I tried not to let this get to me, however when we played Kidderminster Harriers away I felt it did affect my game.

"This was due to that I kept wondering if there were any scouts in the crowd who were here to watch me, and I must admit this did worry me a little bit."

Fleetwood turned down a move to Crewe Alexandra last week and said he had concerns as to whether he would have been playing regularly at Gresty Road, had the deal gone through.

"Another factor behind me not moving was that I didn't really want to end up warming the bench at a new club which I may well have done, as this wouldn't have been good for me," he said.
