BRISTOL CITY majority shareholder Steve Lansdown stopped short of giving manager Derek McInnes the dreaded ‘vote of confidence’ this week, but admitted he was ‘worried’ by the team’s recent poor form that has seen us lose seven successive games.

On Sunday against Charlton, we again looked clueless.

McInnes rang the changes, as he always does. This time five changes from the starting line up against Birmingham.

No matter what the personnel are at the moment however, the results are the same. I firmly believe the chopping and changing is doing us no good, especially for a squad of players so low on confidence.

But McInnes persists, and whilst I hope it doesn’t turn out to be his downfall, it could prove to be so.

Woolford was thrown back into the side and had a terrible first half, clearly a man with little confidence.

Kilkenny is not a player who is likely to show much fight when required and so surely the wrong man when we need to battle.

I was amazed to hear McInnes’ assistant Tony Docherty after Sunday’s game claim that we created more than enough chances in front of goal.

Not only did we only have 43 per cent of possession, which is pretty disappointing for a home team, but we had just the three shots on target. I do not recall us creating anywhere near enough chances to win the game.

During the game supporters sang ‘we’re Bristol City, so play with some pride’, an indication of the fans dissatisfaction with the players as well as the management team.

However, as we all know the buck stops with the manager in football and so McInnes must get the players battling for points quickly before we are cut adrift at the bottom of the table.

On Saturday City host Blackpool at Ashton Gate (3pm). A 5-0 defeat to the Seasiders last season cost then manager Keith Millen his job. Derek McInnes will be hoping history doesn’t repeat itself a little over a year later.
