IT HAS been a mixed week on the road for Bristol City with the club tasting both victory and defeat in two tough fixtures.

Firstly, on Saturday City made the long trip to Middlesbrough to face one of the league’s in-form teams and came away with a shock 3-1 victory. The result ended our 11 game winless run and sparked hopes of a mini revival, following the previous week’s draw at home to Blackpool. It also went some way to proving the potential of the squad in beating one of the best sides in the league.

Unfortunately, on Tuesday City reverted to type and two embarrassing defensive errors saw us go 2-0 down and never recover. McInnes made two changes to the team, which was surprising given the result at Middlesbrough but not surprising given the manager’s tendency to make changes on a weekly basis.

Louis Carey was dropped, presumably because at his age he struggles to play twice in four days. Striker Ryan Taylor was also left out in favour of Steven Davies. It’s a shame both players can’t fit into the starting 11 but if we are going to go with five in midfield then I think Taylor’s presence is more effective as a lone striker.

In fairness, after gifting Brighton their goals we played ok and largely matched the home side in terms of possession (no mean feat against a passing side like Brighton) and shots at goal. Nevertheless, it was disappointing not to at least get a draw following two encouraging results.

On Saturday Wolves come to Ashton Gate (3pm). They have been dropping down the league table like a stone of late having lost five out of their last six games. City, meanwhile, have not won at home since August 25!

December is shaping up to be a big month for us, as we play Sheffield Wednesday, Ipswich and Peterborough, all of which could currently be considered as ‘six-pointers’. We need to build on these promising last few performances and start winning games at home, starting on Saturday against an out-of-sorts Wolves.
