Tom Shrewsbury made his debut for England under-19s in the one-day series against South Africa
THORNBURY cricketer Tom Shrewsbury made his international debut during England’s tour of South Africa.
The 18-year-old spinner, who goes to Wycliffe College, played in the first two under-19 one-day internationals at Boland Park and Test ground Newlands, taking 1-35 and 1-43 respectively.
However, England lost the opening game of the series by seven wickets before going down narrowly by 12 runs in Cape Town.
Shrewsbury also played in the fourth ODI, but was wicket-less and went for 36 runs as England lost by six wickets on the Duckworth-Lewis method at Stellenbosch University.
Fellow Gloucestershire Academy spinner Miles Hammond was preferred to Shrewsbury for both Test matches, and took his place for the third and fifth ODIs, with South Africa winning both to clinch the series 5-0.
