GARY WARREN has been described as a ‘terrific leader’ by former England skipper Terry Butcher after signing a new two-year contract at Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

The 28-year-old defender grew up in Olveston before moving away to join the Scottish Premier League side last summer and he has helped them up to third place in the table with a Champions League place still in sight, scoring seven goals in the process.

Inverness boss Butcher, who was a centre-back himself, told the club’s website: “I’m delighted that Gary has committed himself for a further two seasons as he’s proved to be a terrific leader at our club.

“He’s matured into a tough and steady centre back who until recently had played in every minute of every game this season.

“Gary’s also had the valuable knack of scoring important goals for us and he’s become an important player to us in a relatively short time.”

Warren added: “I took a gamble in coming here but it’s proved well worthwhile and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed being an SPL regular. “The team has done extremely well this season and I look forward to playing my part on its ongoing journey.”
