Uhlsport Hellenic League Division One West: Tytherington Rocks 0 Lambourn Town 2
11:03am Thursday 7th March 2013 in Thornbury Sport
FOR the second week in a row Tytherington Rocks lost ground in the race for third place when beaten at home by lowly Lambourn Town.
With four first team players unavailable, Rocks manager Gary Powell brought in players from the reserves.
Despite having most of the play they failed again to finish off their possession and although Lambourn had only two chances they scored on both occasions through poor defensive covering.
On 14 minutes Lambourn took the lead when Dom Greograce hit a low shot into the bottom left of the net with keeper Kevin Freeman left exposed.
Within minutes Rocks went close to getting back on level terms when a shot from Jack Smyth from inside the box just flew by the upright.
The second half started better with Rocks doing most of the attacking, again without really testing the opposition keeper.
In the 60th minute Rocks conceded a free kick halfway inside their half on the the left which went through their defence and was picked up by Matty Pedder, who scored from close in to put the away side two up.
Rocks came back again on the attack and were unlucky not to get on the scoresheet when efforts were headed off the line and two excellent shots were stopped by keeper Steve Howe.
Overall, it was a poor performance by the Rocks’ standards but with a full squad available for the next game Highmoor Ibis Powell will be looking to get back on track and progress in the third round of the Hellenic League Supplementary Cup, 3pm.
