Bristol & District League Division Three

Real Thornbury 3 Nicholas Wanderers A 1

WITH some of the Thornbury regulars away on a stag weekend, it was a chance for the fringe players to step up.

Given Thornbury’s mighty goalscoring record in the league it was very soon apparent that Nicholas Wanderers' game plan was damage limitation with five at the back.

This worked well until the 48th minute when defender Calum Davies-Smith saw a gap and let go with a screamer from 30 yards out, which went through a packed goal area and low into the net for the Thornbury opener.

Five minutes later Adam Pegler tapped in number two.

Nicholas, still playing a defensive game, were beaten by their own offside trap when Sam Taylor ran through and and beat the oncoming keeper for number three.

Nicholas scored their wind-assisted consolation goal direct from a corner in the 85th minute when the ball was blown in at the far post.

Star Man: Stuart Harding.
