Thornbury 2nds 3 Bristol 1

BRISTOL were much quicker on the ball than the home side and deservedly took an early lead, which they held until half-time.

Sarah Newman started the game up front but was more prominent in her normal defensive role, stopping the many visiting attacks.

Alex Arnold gave a livewire performance for Thornbury, roaming all over the pitch, whilst Ellen Morgan, Holly Weir and Mikki Stanton constructed a number of pleasing movements.

Ella Wheatley and Jen Arnold were also prominent for the home side, whilst Sarah Brownhill (2) and Nicki Bruce scored the second half goals to earn them the points.

Lauren Upham also narrowly missed scoring on a number of occasions, whilst Hannah Kemp pulled off a couple of vital saves.

Thornbury host Yate thirds on Saturday (10.30am) at Castle School, whilst the thirds entertain Lydney thirds following the conclusion of the seconds' game.

Division Three

Thornbury 3rds 2 Wotton-under-Edge 2nds 4

THORNBURY gave a much-improved second half performance against Wotton-under-Edge to score two well worked goals before losing 4-2.

The visitors started brightly and scored three first half goals through Lauren Leyland (2) and Ellie Stimpson, whilst Jackie Collins added a fourth in the second half.

Thornbury's goals came from Lorna Thornton and Ella Clark.

Liz Jenkins was prominent in defence for Thornbury and Sarah Brearley, Rachael Underwood and Claire Johnson gave their usual committed performances, whilst the younger members of the team all had pleasing games.

* Thornbury firsts, missing captain Amanda McGarry, narrowly went down 1-0 at Redland UWE seconds.

They visit local rivals Yate seconds on Saturday for their last league game.
