West Women’s Hockey League

Berkeley Division Three

Thornbury 3rds 1 Badminton 1

THORNBURY gave a much-improved performance against Badminton and thoroughly deserved to earn a point in their final league game of the season.

Despite starting well, the home side were unable to score.

Numerous shots were either well saved or went wide.

Thornbury included two players, Charlotte Fox and Amanda McGarry, who were returning from injury, and both came through the game without any side effects.

Ellie Morgan and Helen Gardner were prominent with some probing runs, whilst Tess Wheatley, Angela Greenslade and Jean Lester defended stoutly to thwart the isolated visiting attacks.

Amy Morse and Sarah Brearley contributed some nice touches for the home side, and Rachael Underwood and Claire Johnson gave their usual wholehearted performances.

The game was goalless at half-time and it was Badminton who opened the scoring in the second half when Liz Edwards scored, her powerful strike giving keeper Alex Arnold no chance.

Despite having most of the play it began to look as if Thornbury were going to be denied a goal, but with time running out a cross from the right was turned into goal by Lorna Thornton to earn Thornbury a deserved point.
