A PRECIOUS 1-0 win at Walsall on Saturday lifted City seven points clear of the League One drop zone, pretty much guaranteeing safety this season.

Given City’s superior goal difference to their rivals, the gap is effectively eight points with just four games remaining and I can still see us picking up another win or two before the season ends at Crawley Town on May 3.

In any case, 50 points is surely already enough to survive considering the form of teams near the bottom of the table.

Despite spending most of the season in the bottom four, City now lie 14th in the table and a finish as high as 12th is still achievable.

Before the season started I anticipated a mid-table finish given the upheaval of last summer following relegation after six seasons in The Championship.

Saturday’s win came with a rare clean sheet which was pleasing to see.

Goalkeeper Simon Moore played a big part in this happening after saving a second half penalty.

Sam Baldock made no mistake from the spot in the first half for City, converting down the middle as he usually does, to score his 21st league goal of the season.

Baldock is a player who will surely attract interest from other clubs in the summer and City may have a battle on their hands to keep him, with just a year left on his contract.

City have two games over the Easter weekend starting at home to Notts County on Good Friday (3pm) before a trip to Stevenage on Easter Monday (3pm).

Both teams are under a significant threat of relegation, Stevenage in particular. They are currently bottom and look favourites to go down.

Notts County on the other hand are fifth bottom but have won four out of their last five games. Their only defeat came at Brentford, who look set to win automatic promotion.

County have been scoring plenty of goals and so Friday’s game could be entertaining as both teams go for the win.
