GARY Powell has left Tytherington Rocks after three years in charge to become the new manager at Longwell Green Sports.

The former Yate Town defender guided the Rocks to their first ever Hellenic League Division One title in his first season at the helm and repeated that feat this year, while they finished third in the 2012-13 campaign.

Tytherington’s ground did not meet FA requirements to be promoted two years ago but they have since upgraded their facilities and have applied to join the Toolstation Western League Premier Division next season.

The FA will give their verdict in June and if successful Tytherington will come up against Powell’s Longwell Green side, who finished just below mid-table under previous boss Spenny Thomas.

Powell, who will be joined by his assistant manager Jason Woods at Longwell Green, said on Twitter: “After 3 years at the helm of @TheRocksFC myself and @JDWoodsie have decided to step down, I'd like to thank every1 who have played part in our journey and I wish the club every success in the future!”

Longwell Green confirmed Powell’s appointment on their Twitter account this week.

It read: “We are pleased to announce ex Tythrington Rocks management team of Gary Powell & Jason Woods will take over our first team management.”
