Cricket: Davis leads Thornbury to victory

THORNBURY picked up a great three-wicket win at home to Goatacre in a close West of England Premier League Premier Two encounter on Saturday.
Luke Davis, in the middle order, steered Thornbury home with a very sensible 45 runs after Goatacre were bowled out for 182.
Thornbury skipper Richard Trotman claimed 4-21 off seven overs, while Davis and Sayeem Waliullah took three wickets apiece.
The seconds also won away in the corresponding fixture.
Skipper David Hammond won his first toss for nearly two years and decided to bat.
Marcus Wormwell got Thornbury off with a flyer and 36 runs came easy off his bat.
Chris Budd played some glorious shots, ending up with 93, with Sam Summerfield at the other end getting an explosive 50 off a few overs and breaking his bat.
Alexander Broomsgrove also smashed 50 as Thornbury ended up with a very respectable 319 all out.
Goatacre were on the rocks at 60-5 before finishing with a respectable 280, Richard Hughes coming away with a five-wicket haul.
Thornbury thirds were away at Blagdon in the Bristol and District League Seventh Division and tied the game.
They needed one off the last ball of the match to reach their target of 188 but Joshua Morris was caught behind.
In the 45-over Gloucestershire County Cup game at Downend on Sunday, Thornbury batted first and achieved 270 but lost by five wickets.
