THE recent inclement weather was kind for Thornbury Golf Club’s Seniors Open.

Heavy rain before the event left the course damp but playable and the 140 competitors from 36 clubs in the South West and Wales returned competitive high scores.

Organised superbly by Phil Faulkner and fellow members, they played a four ball better ball format in pairs with no less than 34 teams equalling or exceeding their par score of 36 Stableford points.

Top prize for the visitors with 44 points was taken by Paul McLaughlin and Frank Snelders (Chippenham Golf Club), closely followed by the 43-point total of Brian Turner (Henbury) and Roger Unwin (Thornbury).

Top prize for members, also with 44 points, went to David Holliday and Jeff Stott with David Cochrane and Tony Iles taking the second members’ prize with 40 points.

The course was praised by numerous visitors who were playing the Marlwood course for the first time.
