THORNBURY Running Club member Jim Godden impressed at the first Blaise Blazer race of the season, hosted by Westbury Harriers using the varied and challenging woods, hills and fields of the Blaise estate.

Godden kept up his good performance since returning to racing a few of months ago, finishing in 14th place, second MV50 in 26:21.

Mitchell Fussell was 76th in 36:39.

The club cyclists were out for the second in the Wednesday evening duathlon series at Castle Combe race circuit.

Mike Willis had another superb race to finish 14th overall in 53:12.7, by far the quickest in the SupVet60 category.

Rich Phillips and Sandra Webber were third relay team (56:02.3) with Phillips having the fourth fastest bike time of the night.

Karen Scott (56:51.3) was second female finisher and winner of her category with two very fast runs.

At the weekend there were several events to choose from, with parkrun an option as always.

Mitchell Fussell was at Cheltenham where he continues to chase his time from August last year; this week a little slower than last, finishing in 24:52.

Graham Bishop finished with a big smile to beat the rain as well as quite a few other runners in 31:26.

Little Stoke saw just two from Thornbury.

Jim Godden took it a little more gently to finish in 19:27, 21 seconds outside his personal best (PB), while Daniel Harding, in 20:01, knocked 17 seconds from his previous best.

The Bradley Stoke 10k on Sunday provided mixed successes for the club.

Kevin Arnold was first member to finish, 46th in 44:52.

Hugh McPherson broke the 50-minute barrier with a time of 49:31, which was also the fastest time for a Vet60 on the day.

Also competing were Dave Flemington (57:06), Angela Bushell (58:28) and Rebecca Dunsford (63:12)

At Burnham-on-Sea the same day, Sandra Webber and Rich Phillips did well, each coming third in their category in the Sprint Triathlon.

Phillips was 16th male overall with, as usual, a fast bike leg which followed an even higher-placed swim, giving a total time of 1:06:27.

For Webber, the strength is in her run, giving her a time of 1:24:09, 18th female overall.

The Sundayshill 10k will be held at 7.30pm on Monday, June 30.

The race is open to all and full details of the route and how to enter may be found, with information about all club meetings and events at thornburyrunningclub.co.uk
