ONE of three annual open races organised by Thornbury Running Club, the Sundayshill 10k, was held on Monday.

Starting from Thornbury Rugby Club, the course passes through Rockhampton and out for a brief stretch of pavement alongside the A38 before returning along Sundayshill Lane and back to the rugby Club.

In spite of thundery clouds, there was no rain, and conditions were warm for the 95 entrants.

The winner in a time of 36:05 was Nick Smart from Westbury Harriers, having raced away from Bristol and West AC's Phil Lucker (36:45) and David Hobbs of Westbury Harriers (36:50).

First and third finishers were in the V45 category as were all first three ladies: Niki Morgan from Chepstow Harriers (41:45), Sue Thorndyke (41:58) and Jane Colman from Bristol & West AC (42:12).

The first Thornbury finisher was Rob Watkins (38:31) in fifth place overall and winner of the V40 category.

Daniel Harding was 11th (41:42), while Nick Langridge (43:28) was 19th and first MV60.

The first lady home for the club was Angela Bushell, 62nd in 54:14.

Whilst many Club members were involved in the organisation of the event, other Thornbury finishers were Nigel Hale (54th, 52:31), Malcolm Carr (55th, 52:38), Romy Gill (92nd, 1:09:01) and Rebecca Dunsford (95th, 1:10:35).
