ALVESTON-based Robert Sims took his maiden win at Rissington Kart Club.

The 12-year-old is competing in his first full season at the club, driving in the Tyro class for 11 to 15-year-olds.

Race day consisted of three heats in which Sims finished third, second and sixth respectively.

This led to him starting third on the grid for the final, although he fell back into fourth place before the first corner.

By the end of the first lap he had made up two places to get himself into second.

Sims maintained this position throughout the remaining laps and despite crossing the finish line in second he was promoted to first place following the disqualification of the first person across the line due to a technical fault with their kart.

He was presented with his first place trophy and a strong weekend has moved him to second place in the Rissington Kart Club Championships with five rounds of the season complete to date.
